Written By creativeseed on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 | 11:18 PM

Apple launches the 5th Generation of iPhone... Bigger.. Better & Smarter

The Apple iPhone 5 features a 4-inch Retina display with a resolution of 1136x640 pixels (that's 326ppi), 100Mb LTE connectivity, dual-band Wi-Fi. The new iPhone is thinner - 7.6mm and lighter - 112 grams than its 4S counterpart.
The iPhone 5 runs on the Apple's latest A6 chipset, which is said to offer 2x faster processor and graphics performance. There is still no word on the number of cores and clock speeds though.
The camera features the same 8megapixel sensor as the on on the iPhone 4S, but the sensor is 25% smaller this time. There is a newly announced panorama mode, which obviously stitches together full res photos as the sample showcased had 28megapixel resolution.
The Apple iPhone 5 also comes with an upgraded front-facing camera, which now supports 720p video recording.
The new specs sheet continues with three microphones, noise-cancelling earpiece, smaller speaker and brand-new Lightning connector. The latter is 80% smaller, has 8 pins and is reversible. An adapter for the old 30-pin cables has been announced as well.

Samsung launches first Windows 8 Smartphone

Written By creativeseed on Thursday, August 30, 2012 | 11:58 AM

BERLIN/SEOUL: Samsung became the first handset maker to announce a smartphone using Microsoft's latest mobile software, making its surprise, hurried announcement just days before the highly anticipated launch of Nokia's version.

The brief announcement on Wednesday at a Berlin electronics show comes amid expectations that smartphone makers may turn increasingly to Windows devices after a US jury decided many of Samsung's Google Android-based phones infringed Apple Inc patents.

"It looks like a good phone, and seems like a pre-emptive announcement ahead of Nokia," said Sid Parakh, an analyst at investment firm McAdams Wright Ragen, of the Samsung phone.

"Microsoft or Windows never got their best teams, never got their best designs, just because Android was doing so well. With the change in the legal environment, there's a case to be made that Samsung will likely shift some of those resources to broaden out or diversify their own exposure."

Nokia, the ailing Finnish mobile firm, once the world's leading producer of phones but now struggling to reverse losses, is due to unveil its new Lumia line of smartphones using Windows Phone 8 in New York on September 5.

Samsung's new phone called ATIV S -- tacked onto the end of a long news conference in Berlin that focused on other products -- may elevate expectations for the Lumia. Samsung's ATIV S Windows phone sports a high-end 4.8-inch display, Corning "Gorilla" glass, and an 8-megapixel rear camera and 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, Microsoft posted on its official blog on Wednesday.

"Expectations for a 40 megapixel or possibly 20 megapixel camera model are running high. If Nokia does not unveil a monster camera handset next week, many will be disappointed," said Tero Kuittinen, analyst at mobile analytics firm Alekstra.
But "this leaves Nokia plenty of room to draw a clear contrast with its upcoming announcement."
Samsung's Windows-based smartphone, introduced on Wednesday, marks the first in a "big lineup of new hardware" from the South Korean company based on Microsoft's software, Microsoft executive Ben Rudolph said in a blog posting.

Analysts say the introduction of Samsung's Windows phone may be designed to assuage concerns that Microsoft will favor Nokia, whose Chief Executive Stephen Elop -- himself a former senior Microsoft executive -- has staked its future on the Windows platform.

"The fact Samsung was allowed to be the first to announce is Microsoft's backhanded way of letting other vendors know that Nokia is not getting special treatment," Current Analysis analyst Avi Greengart said.

But Jack Gold, an independent mobile consultant who runs J. Gold Associates, argued Samsung had signalled its commitment to Windows for a while, but Nokia will remain the primary driver of the new breed of Microsoft-powered devices.

"Samsung has crossed the start line first and set the bar for Nokia's launch," said Geoff Blaber, analyst at CCS Insight.

'Top Gun' director Tony Scott jumps to death from LA bridge

Written By creativeseed on Monday, August 20, 2012 | 1:46 PM

Associated Press

Los Angeles: Tony Scott, director of such Hollywood blockbusters as 'Top Gun,' 'Days of Thunder' and 'Beverly Hills Cop II,' died Sunday after jumping from a Los Angeles County Bridge, authorities said.

The 68-year-old Scott's death was being investigated as a suicide, Los Angeles County Coroner's Lt. Joe Bale said.

Several people called 911 around 12:35 pm to report that someone had jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island in Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles police Lt Tim Nordquist.

A dive team with Los Angeles Port Police pulled the body from the murky water several hours later, Nordquist said. Scott's body was taken to a dock in Wilmington and turned over to the county coroner's office.
One lane of the eastbound side of the bridge was closed to traffic during the investigation.
US Coast Guard Lt. Jennifer Osburn told the Daily Breeze that a suicide note was found inside Scott's black Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the eastbound lanes of the bridge.

The British-born Scott was producer and director Ridley Scott's brother.

The two brothers ran Scott Free Productions and were working jointly on a film called 'Killing Lincoln,' based on the best seller by Bill O'Reilly. Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' was a summer blockbuster.

'Top Gun,' starring Tom Cruise, was one of the highest-grossing films of 1986. The pair worked together again four years later on the hit 'Days of Thunder.'

Scott frequently worked with Denzel Washington, most recently on the runaway train drama 'Unstoppable'. Scott and Washington collaborated on four other films: 'Man on Fire', 'Deja Vu,' and 'The Taking of Pelham 123.'

In a tweet Sunday, Director Ron Howard said, "No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day."
Other Scott films include 'True Romance,' 'Crimson Tide' and 'Man on Fire.' Scott was married to actress Donna Scott. They have twin sons.

Whitney Houston's last 'Sparkle'

What Critics say about singer's last screen performance

Salim Akil's remake of the 1976 film Sparkle features the final screen appearance from the late and beloved Whitney Houston, who died suddenly on Feb. 11 just one day before the Grammy Awards.

In the film, written by Akil's wife, screenwriter Mara Brock Akil, Houston portrays the matriarch of a late '60s-era girl group featuring Jordin Sparks as an aspiring soul diva.

Sparkle currently holds a score of 60 percent among top critics on Rotten Tomatoes -- a vast improvement from its predecessor, which earned a dismal 13 percent.

Read below for some of the reviews from Hollywood's top critics:

The New York Times' Stephen Holden points out that, "If the film is a sudsy show-business Cinderella story in which Emma’s youngest daughter, Sparkle (Jordin Sparks), ascends to glory, Houston’s presence makes it a cautionary tale."

Holden also praises the late singer's performance, saying, "Houston dominates the new Sparkle and gives its most compelling vocal performance in her rendition of 'His Eye Is on the Sparrow.' Her vocal stamina was considerably diminished by the time she filmed the movie, but her disciplined, slightly hoarse rendition of that gospel standard gives Sparkle much of its heart."

Claudia Puig from USA Today writes about Sparks' character, "While Sparks has a genuine sparkle and an amazing voice, she doesn't get to fully show it off until more than 90 minutes into the movie. Houston is convincing as the loving but inflexible mom. Houston has a singing solo while at church, but she's clearly a supporting player in the movie, which she also executive-produced."

Puig adds: "It's too bad Sparkle trots out so many A Star is Born-style clichés. Fortunately, the film is full of show-stopping musical numbers that all but drown out the predictable story."

Washington Post's Ann Hornaday says that, "While Sparkle doesn’t give the audience a lasting memory of Houston’s voice at its most soaring, it does manage to provide a lingering sense of loss, mixed with celebration and grim irony.

Then, Hornaday concludes: "Sparkle may have begun as nothing more than a tuneful, diverting nostalgia trip, but it turns out to be a surprisingly poignant swan song."

5 Smart Phones the World is waiting for...

Written By creativeseed on Friday, August 17, 2012 | 11:37 AM

The World of Smart Phones is getting bigger and crazier by the day. With more advanced, more feature packed, more loaded smart phones debuting every now and then, the excitment and anticipation for new launch products have dimmed a bit. Still, there are some special ones, which are making all the techmaniacs wait eagerly. We have picked 5 of those special smart phones which are making the World wait...

1. iPhone 5

The most eagerly awaited gadget in the World right now, the fifth edition of Apple's master creation The iPhone 5. Everybody wants to know how will it look, will it have altogether different style? What will be the new add on? What would be the screen size? thousands of questions are in the air. And with the guessing game on, tech freaks are busy, with their imaginative skills at full throttle, different images that claim to be leaks of its design, its feature, its looks are doing the rounds in the cyber world. However, Apple secrets don't get out that easily. So, the bottom line is, the best thing to do is wait till the official 5th Avatar of iPhone appears, hopefully within a month.

2. Google Nexus Next gen

The Nexus franchise of Google Smart phone is another device, which is spinning the rumor mills for quite sometime now. The biggest question is, whether it be a Phone, a Tablet or a Fablet. Another question, which is triggered is will it be like Samsung Galaxy Note II. With Nexus 7 eyeing a good fight  in the Tablet market against iPad and Microsoft Surface, Nexus 2 is pegged by the tech wizards to take on iPhone5.
Read detailed information about Nexus 2nd Generation Phone in the Post : Google Nexus D- Superphone with Smart Curves.

3. Galaxy Note II

The Successor of Super successful Galaxy Note from the stable of Samsung is also creating lot of buzz in the Tech circuits. As per the Tech Website GSM Arena, The Galaxy Note 2 should arrive with a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.5 GHz which integrates an Exynos 4 Quad chip, right besides a huge 5.5-inch wide Super AMOLED display that’s capable of 1280 x 800 pixel resolutions. The display will occupy a large portion of the device but the pixel density will be far below Apple’s Retina standard, even for a device so big.
The Galaxy Note 2 should also integrate the same camera sensor as the Samsung Galaxy S3, one that’s capable of 8-megapixel pictures, but others claim that a far more advanced camera may be added instead.
According to the source, the Note 2 will NOT support full-HD qualities because of battery concerns over such a wide display. As far as the operating system goes, it will be most likely shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and swiftly upgraded to 4.1 Jelly Bean until the end of the month.

4. Droid Razr HD

Moto now is expected to release the Droid Razr HD in October, according to sources. The  Android 4.0 successor of Droid Razr, is rumored to include a 720x1,280-pixel HD display, 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processors, and maybe even a 13-megapixel camera.

5. Nokia Lumia (Windows 8)

First Smartphone loaded with Windows 8 OS can be launched in the first week of September, around the same time when Apple will be unvealing iPhone5. Nokia can launch the rumoured Lumia Phi , which is said to have a 4.3-inch touchscreen, runs on Qualcomm S4 dual-core Snapdragon processor, and has NFC and LTE capabilities. This device, if launched, will probably take the place of Nokia Lumia 900 as the flagship device of the company.

Ek Tha Tiger : Story & Strengths

Written By creativeseed on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 | 10:06 PM

70mm Screen sizzles with Salman-Kat chemistry

The film, shot in as many as five countries across three continents. revolves around Tiger, a rugged, handsome and mysterious bachelor, played by Salman. Tiger, a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer is sent on a safe mission to Dublin, Ireland, to observe an Indian-origin scientist who is suspected of sharing his research findings with the Pakistan defense establishment.

He attempts to meet the scientist but is not successful. He then tries to befriend the scientist's part-time home caretaker, Zoya (Katrina). As Tiger begins to get closer to Zoya, he discovers his human side and for the first time in his life he falls in love.

What follows is a tumultuous journey that Tiger and Zoya embark upon, battling the dark world of intelligence that forbids its soldiers from falling in love.

Salman is seen with Katrina Kaif after four years. Their last film together was Yuvvraaj. Trade analysts believe, that apart from Salman himself, the charm of watching Salman-Katrina together will be another important crowd puller factor.

Ek Tha Tiger (213530) size:1280x1024
Salman Khan is seen pulling off some jaw dropping stunts, infact some stunts are a 'never seen before in Bollywood films' kind. But the real surprise package is Katrina Kaif doing mindblowing stunts. A Terrace jumping sequence in the film reminds of the famous Antonio Bendares-Salma Hayek starrer Desperado.

Cinematography is another strength of Ek Tha Tiger, which mesmerizes you with beauty of countries like Cuba & Turkey shot magnificently, at the same time catches your nerve with high speed, high octane Action sequences, shot with supreme style.

Tiger Khan roars like never before

Ek Tha Tiger gets historical opening at the Box Office

Ek tha Tiger has declared, that Salman Khan is the one and only Tiger of BO. Close to hundred percent advance bookings, massive crowd outside the theaters, long queues at ticket counters and a never seen before mass hysteria... all for one man, one name... Salman Khan.

On the first day, Ek tha tiger has done excellent business across all the centers in the country. With Multiplex theatres booking almost housefull in all shows, and sold out windows at single screens, the film is all set to create a new opening day collection record.

Currently the biggest opening day gross collection is held by Hrithik Roshan-Sanjay Dutt starrer Agneepath, which collected 21 crores at the BO.

With three successive 100 crore blockbusters to the credit, Salman Khan was expected to deliver yet another historical hit. And when you look at the festive season ahead with swelling craze for the movie, it doesn't seems hard, for the film to set a new box office record.

Google to trim down Motorola Mobility

Cyber Giant to cut 4,000 Motorola Mobility jobs

(Reuters) - Google Inc said it would cut 20 percent of the workforce of Motorola Mobility, the money-losing cellphone maker it bought for $12.5 billion last year, and shut nearly a third of Motorola's offices worldwide.

The news sent Google's shares up as much as 1.5 percent and Morgan Stanley also upgraded the company to "overweight".
Motorola Mobility has lost money in fourteen of the last sixteen quarters and in its latest quarter reported an operating loss of $233 million on revenue of $1.25 billion.

"These changes are designed to return Motorola's mobile devices unit to profitability," Google said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Google had evaded questions about its plans for Motorola Mobility when it reported quarterly results last month, saying it was yet to complete its homework on the various businesses.
"While lower expenses are likely to lag the immediate negative impact to revenue, Google sees these actions as a key step for Motorola to achieve sustainable profitability," Google said on Monday.
Morgan Stanley said Google may bring more discipline to Motorola Mobility than was assumed.
"We see management becoming somewhat more communicative, having recently enumerated key strategic growth areas, and cancelling underperforming projects," analysts at the brokerage wrote in a client note.
"We believe that Google is planning to reduce Motorola Mobility's smartphone portfolio to a few reference Android devices, and perhaps a couple of tablet devices."
Google expects to take a severance-related charge of up to $275 million mostly in the third quarter, it said in the filing.
Google, which expects to record the remaining severance-related costs by the end of 2012, said it could also incur other related restructuring charges mainly in the third quarter.
